Imphal, February 21 2009: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today demanded immediate lifting of the curfew considering the ensuing HSCL and HSSLC exams commencing from February 27 while calling the protesting bodies to keep schools and other educational institutes outside the purview of the strikes.

A statement of the DESAM said that the state authority should immediately lifted the curfew imposed in Imphal areas in order to control the uprising of the people in the wake of murder of the Kasom Khullen SDO and his two staffs in merciless manner alleging that the government decision is amount to violate the democracy.

Considering the final exam of the Standard X and XII which is commencing from 27th of this current month, the curfew should be lifted and the protesting bodies should also give relaxations to the students and teachers and other related with education.

The murder of the SDO and his staffs was committed by the NSCN(IM) and Indian Army is well known to the people.

So, protests should be continue till the culprits are book and punished by the state government.

Government should also taken up appropriate actions to check the excessive meted out by the NSCN(IM) and ceasefire, the statement pressed the state government.

No rule of law in the state hills areas of the state and there are no activities of Army and police in these areas.

Underground outfits maintaining ceasefire with the government of India are doing whatever they wanted and openly killing people and looting the properties of the people.

They are also trying to disintegrate the state.

It has been clearly mention in agreement signed between K Padma Veiya, emissary of the GOI and Th Muivah, of NSCN(IM) in July 2001 that the ceasefire does not extend in Manipur.

But Chief Minister, O Ibobi is giving freehand to the outfits activities in the state.

As such the outfit is doing kidnapping and killing of people in the state, DESAM alleged.

If the murder incident be occurred in the valley area, it is sure to killed many people who can be treated as undergrounds by the police commandos and combined security forces and many of them would be nabbed and torture in their custody without actually knowing their link with the killing, the state observed asking why even a single man could be nabbed till date in connection with the murder of the SDO and his staffs.

The government remaining silent without taking up action against the NSCN(IM) even though they knew that the killing has link with the outfit has indicated that the ceasefire is in force in the state too and its cadres are breaking the ground rules, the students body observed.

The Assam Rifles and police commandos are strong only in the four valley districts only.

No action has been taken up by the police in the recent staff-off between the AR and NSCN(IM) at Siroy and AR authority said that three designated camps of the outfit is opening in the state of Manipur.

It also while reacting to the NSCN(IM) statement on finding the culprits and truth in the murder case is only to cover the voice of the people and it should not believed by the people, the lengthy statement of the DESAM further said.

A conclusion to this case can be drown while recalling the nature of the case of murder of eight year students of Little Flower, Luningla Elizabeth which the outfit has promised to deliver justice and subsequent fake enquiry report.

They have no faith of bringing out justice by handing over the case to the CBI while reacting to the Cabinet decision to hand over the case to the Central agency stating that its hand is very short so far in the state of Manipur is concern.

Finally the lengthy statement of the DESAM called the people to launch protest at every locality, streets in Imphal by all community residing together here to teach a lesson to the government and the culprits that such merciless killing has no place in the society.

On the other hand, keeping in view the plight of the students appearing in the coming higher secondary school leaving certificate (Class XII) examination which is scheduled to be held from February 27, institution, teachers' and students' bodies have today urged the authority to lift curfew which has been imposed in the wake of the general strike called against the killing of Dr Kishan and two of his staff.

The All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association, Manipur, the All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur state council, and the All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association have, in a separate statement, urged the concerned authority to lift curfew taking into consideration the coming higher secondary examination.

The statements noted that the firing of tear gas, the blast of mock bomb have caused tension among the students which in turn affect their study environment.
