The streets of Imphal and Greater Imphal areas came to life for two hours this afternoon following the relaxation of the indefinite curfew that has been imposed as a pre-emptive measure to prevail peaceful atmosphere in the aftermath of the killing of Dr Th Kishan, MCS, SDO of Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul district and his two staffs.
During the relaxation the people of Imphal were seen thronging market places buying the essential needs of their households even as vendors were also seen busy with their business.
Passenger vehicles were also seen in the streets of Imphalafter being off roads for four days following the bandhs and curfew since Tuesday.
Besides the common man, the relaxation was also a big relief for the vendors who were out once again earning their daily bread.
However, they felt that the bandh and the curfew had spoilt most of their stocks.
And though the curfew was relaxed, the high price of essential commodities, gone up probably due to the bandh and curfew adversely affected the common.
The price of a piece of cabbage or cauliflower was reportedly as high as Rs 20 per piece and that of superfine rice, supposed to be the cheapest, was as high as Rs 19-20 per kg as per reports.
Meanwhile, with the Imphal city being paralysed almost completely for the last four day, most of the mobile tower phone and networks were down.
An official source of AirTel, a leading mobile network connection of the state informed that 145 out of 180 generators of the company were down due to non-availability of oil thus affecting the network of the company.
