AR observes World Environment Day across the State, conducts various activities & campaigns

In order to safeguard the environment and promote the cause of clean and green surroundings among the population, the units of HQ IGAR (South) undertook numerous activities including tree plantation drives to mark the World Environment Day in conjunction with locals including students of different localities in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Chandel ' and Tengnoupal districts.
Keithelmanbi Battalion joined hands with various Youth Clubs, Meira Paibis, Schools, Colleges and NGOs of Andro, Lilong, Singjamei, Canchipur and nearby areas to observe the day.
With this year's theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution", a series of events were organised by the unit including tree plantation, lectures, seminars and cleanliness drives.
A fancy dress competition was also organised for young kids who were rewarded for their innovative ideas.
Around 650 saplings were planted across all Company Operating Bases.
Lectures and seminars were organized to motivate and educate all with the ill effects of plastic and its harm to the environment.
On the other hand, Mantripukhri Battalion organised tree plantation drives with Meira Paibis and elders of nearby villages in an around all Company Operating Bases of the Bn.
K Biren Singh, MLA, Lamlai AC who was also part of the tree plantation drive asked the gathering to keep their surroundings clean.
More than 550 saplings were planted by school children of various schools, members from the Youth Clubs and Zilla Parishad members.
Meanwhile, Phundrei Battalion reached out to the remote areas in Thoubal district and organised tree plantation drives in an around all Company Operating Bases of the Battalion.
Around 500 saplings were planted by villagers, school children of various schools, members from Youth Clubs, Zilla Parishad members and troops of the Battalion Tulihal Battalion also conducted a number of events in Nambol, Patsoi, Mayang Imphal and adjoining areas.
Events such as tree plantation drive, cleanliness drive, cycle rally and seminar were organised where villagers and school children of various schools enthusiastically participated.
Pamphlets and posters on environmental issues were also distributed to people in Wangoi Bazaar, as part of the cleanliness drive.
Issues including banning of plastic bags, open defecation free areas and keeping surroundings clean were conveyed to the people.
More than 100 saplings were planted during the drive.
Another tree plantation drive was organised by the Sajik Tampak Battalion to mark the celebration of World Environment Day.
The arboriculture activity received an overwhelming response from villagers, school children and locals who participated in large numbers to plant the saplings in the area.
Prior to the plantation, Sajik Bn conducted lectures on the need for a cleaner environment.
The local population extended* their gratitude to Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel for assisting in organising the event and assured to protect the forest areas by restricting deforestation.
A total of 300 saplings were planted including fruit bearing trees.
The event was organised at three villages of Aigejang, Khollen and Sajik Tampak.
Meanwhile, Chandel Battalion organised a sapling plantation drive at Children's Park, Chandel in conjunction with District Forest Department, Chandel Football Friends and other NGOs on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The villagers participated with great enthusiasm where a total of 100 saplings were planted in the park.
Lecture on environmental awareness and plantation of 50 saplings was also carried out at Assam Rifles Public school, Pallel wherein teachers and students got together to participate in this noble cause.
The occasion was a learning experience for young budding minds.
Moreh Battalion celebrated the auspicious day at Thangbung Minou village and Chongjang village, Tengnoupal district wherein the team of Moreh Battalion conducted lectures on the importance of afforestation followed by plantation of saplings in both the villages.
The event saw active participation of the locals which included 58 villages from Thangbung Minou and 22 villagers from Chongjang.
A total of 100 saplings were planted in both the villages.
The efforts of AR were aimed at making the populace aware as well as responsible for keeping the environment clean and green.
The celebration of World Environment Day will go a long way in keeping the environment preserved for future generations.
