World Environment Day observed across the State

As the World observed the World Environment day, district administrations and organisations across the State too observed the day with many eventful programmes to mark the observation.
Here are the highlights of the event on Tuesday across the State.
Thoubal: Reformist Students' Front (RSF) in association with Kairembikhok Students' Union observed the World Environment Day at Kairembikhok Community Hall Tuesday.
Chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) Lamabam Mahendra stressed the deteriorating impact of deforestation on the environment and called for mass plantation of trees.
Speaking at the event, president of RSF Thoiba Khumancha called for a greener 'Kangleipak' and encouraged the people of the area and the State at large to plant more trees.
Fruit trees saplings were planted at Kairembikhok hill as a part of the observation.
President of the CADA Manipur Hijam Priyokumar, Range Officer Thoubal S Shamungou, National Youth Awardee Premdash Kshetrimayum and SDC Irong L Ashakumar attended the event.
At Khangabok, 3 IRB under its Commanding Officer N Herojit on Tuesday planted 1,000 tree saplings around the campus of the battalion.
The tree plantation programme was organised as a part of the World Environment Day observance, said N Herojit.
Kakching: At Pallel, Social Development Organisation (SDO) in association with Pallel Forest Beat Office planted over 100 tree saplings at areas under Pallel- along the Pallel Satu road, Pallel IVR-1, Pallel Lamthok hill, Pallel ground etc.
The tree saplings were provided by the Pallel Beat Office.
Chandel: In line with the World Environment Day observed across the world and in the State, Chandel district also observed the day under the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" at District Headquarters, Chandel Tuesday.
The programme organised by IWMP/DRDA under the aegis of district administration, Chandel was held at DRDA Training Hall, Chandel and inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Krishna Kumar.
DC Krishna Kumar, Kamei Angam Romanus, SP, Chandel and Dr A Chinglenkhomba, ADC/PD, DRDA Chandel attended the event as dignitaries.
Several tree saplings were planted in and around the DC office premises as a part of the observation.
Bishnupur: At Kumbi, Bishnupur, Kumbi College NSS Unit I and II in association with Eco Club Kumbi College observed the day under the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" at the campus of the college.
Kangpokpi: Kangpokpi Forest Division too observed the World Environment Day at Kangpokpi today.
Kangpokpi Forest Division led by its DFO Esther Laltankim Serto distributed biodegradable bags at various places in the district- Kanglatongbi, Motbung, Kangpokpi bazar, downtown IT Road and M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi.
The day was observed at Motbung community under the initiative of ATSUM.
Mahesh Naraian Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi District and Dr Thathang Vaiphei, Asst Prof Manipur University attended the observation as resource persons.
In a competition among the schools, Educational Training School, Kangpokpi, Mt Sinai, Kangpokpi and Loagos Future Academy, Kangpokpi bagged the first, second and third position as the cleanest school in the district while Eklavya Model Residential School and Eleanor Brilliant Academy bagged the Spick and Span award.
27 educational institutions and 2 colleges were also awarded participation certificates.
The day was also observed at Saikul Sub-Divisional Headquarters and Keithelmanbi Military Colony.
Tamenglong: The Rainforest Club of Tamenglong in collaboration with The Western Forest Division Tamenglong, 23 Assam Rifles and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Tamenglong today observed the World Environment Day at Tamenglong Indoor Stadium.
The event was attended by Col Chinmaya Verma, Commandant 23 Assam Rifles, Kharibam Hitler, RO, WFD Tamenlong, Nehemiah Panmei, Honorary Wildlife and Director TAMBAC, and Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO and Honorary Wildlife Warden as presidium members.
Senapati: The World Environment Day was also observed at Senapati district and Session Court Complex by the staff and Advocates of the Court along with Forest Dept officials.
A Noutuneshwari Devi, District and Session Judge led a tree plantation programme held as a part of the observation.
Churachandpur: The State level World Environment Day was observed at the MMI Complex, Lamdan, Churachandpur district organised by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) and sponsored by the Directorate of Environment, Govt of Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar said eco-tourism park will be developed at the MMI Complex, Lamdan with the fund from the State Government and later with assistance from the Central fund.
MLA L Radhakishore Singh, Chairman, Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Y Nabachandra Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment, Prof Rajmohan Singh, Dean, School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Manipur University, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, president, MMTA and MLA T Robindro attended the event.
The day was also observed at many places across the districts.
Pari Puri Athouba Lup Jiribam and many other also observed the day at Jiribam.
