State minister for information and public relation, TN Haokip today expressed believed that "Vision-2020" will bring development in various fields in the north eastern region of the country.
The minister, speaking at the inaugural function of the seminar on two day long "NEC and Vision 2020" organized by the state department of information and public relation recalled that North Eastern Council (NEC) has been established by the then Prime Minister of the country Indira Gandhi for bringing equal development the region with other parts of the country.
The draft Vision-2020 documents made publish by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohon Singh aimed at development of the north eastern region.
It focus on the improvement of health, water supply, electricity, education etc.
P Bhorot, commissioner, IPR who presided the opening function of the seminar said that the Vision-2020 which specially focus on the development of the region as the region settling by around 470 communities have gulf of different with that of other parts of the country.
The vision document does not include Sikkim.
The unrest situation prevailing in the region made backward from other parts of the country and the draft vision aimed to mend up this gap in development, he added.
In Manipur despite investing a huge amount of funds, only financial achievement without physical achievement witnessed.
With this reason behind, feel ashamed of meeting with the officials and members of Planning Commission of India.
Many disturbances are coming up in taking up developmental activities as there is no peace in the state.
Only when peace is prevalence, development could be brought about, he observed.
He also expressed hope of bringing development in the state with the coming up of Vision-2020 .
In the technical session of the first day of the seminar, Dr DS Sharma, former principal secretary moderated while retired commissioner S Kunjabihari talked on the topic "The North East-towards coordination march" and Imphal Free Press editor, Pradip Phanjoubam on the topic, "Vision-2020: reassessing a perception of north-east development problem.
Discussion on the two topics followed.
The two day long seminar which would be continue till tommorow was organised by the state department of information and public relation at state guest house.
