Imphal, February 19 2025:
In a serious allegation, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has claimed that a police personnel was caught attempting to hand over a bunch of notes to candidates on the first day of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC) at Uchiwa High School centre.
The HSLC exams started today and will continue till March 7 .
Addressing the media at Kwakeithel today, DESAM general secretary N Thoithoiba said that they carried out an inspection drive across seven examination centres viz Little Master English School, Samurou; Wangoi Higher Secondary School; Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School; Chanambam Thambou Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal; N Tomchou Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal and Uchiwa High School.

He said that they were authorised to inspect the examination centres by BOSEM .
Claiming that a Manipur police personnel was caught in the act of attempting to hand over a bunch of notes to students at Uchiwa High School, he added that the notes were provided to the police personnel by an individual who arrived from a nearby boarding facility.
Further claiming that the police personnel attempted to destroy the evidence by tearing apart the notes, he added DESAM volunteers, however, were able to seize the torn notes, preserving the evidence of the attempted malpractice.
N Thoithoiba went on to claim that a group of people who were lurking near the examination centre, allegedly to assist in cheating, created a commotion to disrupt the DESAM volunteers' efforts to gather evidence and prevent malpractice.
Saying that a team of police fortunately intervened and brought the situation under control, he added that the alleged involvement of a police personnel in malpractice at the examination centre was unfortunate, as it undermines the trust and integrity of the law enforcement agency and the examination process.
Urging BOSEM and the Home Department to take action against the police personnel, he appealed to everyone involved, including students, parents, teachers, and authorities, to ensure the HSLC examination is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
Stop poisoning the students by allowing them to engage in unfair means, he said and added the incident at Uchiwa High School centre might not be an isolated one, and unfair means may have occurred at other examination centres as well.
He, meanwhile, said that not allowing 35 students of P Namjulong High School in Imphal East (31) and Laphupat Tera High School (4) to take their exam due to alleged lapses on the part of the school authorities could have severe consequences on their future.
He urged the BOSEM to see if alternative arrangements can be made for them.
