Imphal, June 04 2025:
Khurai MLA L Susindro has announced to initiate due process for construction of houses of the flood-affected residents of his constituency, rather than wait for government intervention.
Following days of incessant rainfall, the Imphal River breached the bank near Khurai Heikru Makhong.
After four to five days of efforts to repair the breached section, MLA Susindro started distribution of relief items to the affected residents.
Over 10,000 households under the Khurai Assembly Constituency have received around 14 essential items, including rice and dal.

Speaking at the function organised at his Khurai Sajor Leikai residence on Wednesday, the MLA urged people not to engage in politics during times of floods.
He appealed to social workers to focus on genuine humanitarian services during such crisis.
"There is no harm in helping one another during floods," he said, "but it is inappropriate to rely solely on the MLA to provide all assistance".
The relief distribution aims to reach 10,000 families across Khurai assembly constituency.
MLA Susindro informed that no government fund has been sanctioned for constructing retaining walls along the Imphal, Kongba and Iril rivers.
Since 2017, all riverbank works have been carried out utilising the MLA's Local Area Development funds.
He added that during the recent breach of the Imphal River bank near Khurai Heikru Makhong, the Water Resources Department provided only 90 bamboo fences, 40 bamboos and 5000 cement bags.
According to the local MLA, 150 volunteers joined hands in plugging the breach.
He also urged the public not to remove the excavated earth piled near the riverbanks, as it is crucial for flood control efforts.
Finally, MLA Susindro appealed to residents and shop owners to remove unauthorised structures built along the river banks at the earliest, stating that those who fail to comply will face demolition of their houses and shops.
