Fisheries officials inspect flood affected farms

Officials of the Fisheries Department inspected fish farms that have been affected by floods in Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency.
The officials of the Fisheries Department including Farm Demonstrator Moirangthem Noren, members of Administrative Committee Hiyanglam AC and social worker Dr Elangbam Amitkumar visited affected farms in Hiyanglam, Langmeidong, Thongjao, Komnao, Tokpaching, Arong, Nongmaikhong, Laphupat Tera, Sekmaijin and Khoidum.
Lamyanba Enterprise proprietor and social worker Dr Elangbam Amitkumar said the people of the Hiyanglam AC depend on agriculture and aquaculture for livelihood.
Vast tracts of agricultural land and fish farms have been inundated with water and farmers have incurred huge losses, he said.
The farmers need immediate assistance from the Government, he added.
In association with the Fisheries Department, fish farmers will be provided nets to fence their farms, he said.
Amitkumar informed farmers to apply for availing the nets and other assistance to the Administrative Committee of Hiyanglam AC.
The team also visited relief camps that have been set up at Komnam and Khoidum for flood affected families.
Amitkumar said the people at the camps will also be given necessary assistance.
