Imphal, January 27 2025:
Nirvana Foundation in collaboration with India HIV/AIDS Alliance, New Delhi with the support of Gilead organised an advocacy meeting for "Inclusion of HCV information and services for WWID in the State and National Programme (NVHCP)" on Monday.
The meeting held at Hotel IMOLESH, Imphal was attended by Dr RK Rosie, State Nodal Officer, State Viral Hepatitis Control Program (SVHCP); K Basantakumar Singh, freelance consultant; representatives of NGOs and community members (FIDU).
The meeting began with a welcome address by Sobhana Sorokhaibam, secretary of Nirvana Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Rosie highlighted the statistics of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis A B & C positive individuals among female injecting drug users and the difficulties faced by both the treatment providers and the infected individuals.
She pointed out a few main reasons why treating a female patient is, in some ways, harder than treating a male patient with the same medical case.
"This eventually leads to the discontinuation of their treatment before completing the required medical doses", she added.
Furthermore, Dr RK Rosie assured that immediate assistance from SVHCP will be provided to any individual who is diagnosed with any of the above mentioned viruses or who are within the vulnerable group.
