IBSD conducts two-day mushroom cultivation workshop

Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC)-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) kicked off a two-day mushroom cultivation workshop for entrepreneurship development at IBSD, Imphal, Manipur today.
The inaugural function was attended by 130 participants.
Twenty seven participants including aspiring entrepreneurs, fanners, unemployed youth, officials from State department and students were trained on successful cultivation technique of two commercially important mushroom species, namely split gill mushroom/Kanglayen, Schizophyllum commune and Shiitake/Uyen, Lentinula edodes.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kengoo Zurengla, IAS, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), highlighted the significance of mushroom-based bio-entrepreneurship in addressing food security, nutritional needs, employment generation and start-ups in Manipur, as per a press release.
Dr Nanaocha Sharma, Programme Chair, Director (Additional Charge) BRIC-IBSD Imphal expressed the economic potential of mushroom cultivation as a sustainable business venture.
Meanwhile, Dr Sarangthem Indira Devi, Scientist E, Program Coordinator, highlighted the importance of the workshop and additionally, Dr W Mohendro Singh, Senior Administrative Officer of IBSD thanked all the participants from various districts of Manipur.
