Bird traps seized during 2-day drive

Members of Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) Manipur and staff of Thoubal Forest Division have recovered a total of 21 bird traps during a two-day drive carried out in areas under the jurisdiction ofThoubal Forest Division.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Leishangthem Jeeceelee, DFO, Thoubal Forest Division and Dineschandra Salam, Range Officer, Thoubal and the traps were seized from Lilong Makha Leikai PHC Mamang and Lilong Mairelkhun Loukol.
Staff of the Forest Beat Office at Mayai Keithel, Yairipok, Ingourok and Heirok also took part in the two-day drive.
Speaking in this connection, Range Officer Dineschandra Salam appealed against setting of traps, using pesticides and air guns to hunt birds and other wildlife.
He cautioned that those found engaging in such unlawful activities are liable to be punished under the Wildlife Act 1972 .
