Imphal, July 14 2010: Following the alleged attempt by some suspected armed Kuki UGs to abduct leaders of Meetei Council, Moreh (MCM) from their respective houses last night, MCM and the Kha-Ngongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh have jointly imposed an indefinite bandh in Moreh with effect from 4 pm today.

Announcing this during a press conference in the office of MCM today afternoon, MCM leaders informed that Moreh town commander of KNA and his armed cadres came looking for them at around 8 pm yesterday and tried to abduct one of them.

With the bandh on and tension high, Moreh street deserted

The armed UGs also warned that one leader would be killed if any of their labourers were hurt by valley based UGs.

Decrying the failure of the security forces to act despite informing them in time, MCM leaders have stated firmly that the indefinite bandh would not be lifted until all the security agencies currently posted in the border town were displaced with some other proactive security forces.
