Imphal, May 10 2010: Assuming the role of the torch bearer of peace and peaceful co-existence amongst the different communities in Manipur, the United Committee Manipur today organised an all community meeting at its headquarters today.

After minutely studying the scenario following the attempt of Th Muivah to enter Manipur, all the community leaders took a collective pledge to appeal against any disturbance together as one.

In a statement issued to the press today, the secretary of the Information and Public Relations department of UCM said that president of UCM Sapamcha Dilipkumar, founder president of UCM Sapamcha Jadumani and Editor of Freedom RK Ranendrajit were seated on the dais.

Members from the United Naga Council (Tangkhul Forum, Imphal), Zeliangrong Union (Imphal Zone), Kabui Mothers' Association, Kuki Inpi (Imphal area), Meetei Pangal Development Organisation, United Manipuri Muslim Women's Association, KANGLAMEI, MAPI Council, All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj and components of UCM, namely IPSA, Freinds, CHITUWA, Kangleichal, NIPCO, UPF, AMKIL etc, were present at the meeting.

A one minute silence was observed to pay respect to the departed souls of the two students who were killed in police firing at Mao Gate on May 6, during the stand off over the proposed visit of Muivah.

During the meeting the possibility of a communal flare up over the proposed visit of Th Muivah was deliberated upon minutely, said UCM.

The false alarm sounded from certain quarters to the hill people to leave Imphal and head for their homesteads in the hill districts was also discussed thoroughly, said the statement.

It was mutually agreed that there will be no exodus due to the false alarm bell as well as not spread rumours.

All the members agreed to unitedly take up the challenge posed against peaceful co-existence of the different communities, added UCM.

After the meeting it was announced that all would work to foster communal amity and harmony, said UCM and added that it will carry on with its efforts to reach out to the hill people.

The attempt of the Government of India to sow the seeds of distrust and animosity should be defeated and it should clear all the doubts lingering in the minds of the people of Manipur, said UCM.
