BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week observed

Kakching/Thoubal, November 03 2026: Kakching and Thoubal districts joined in observing BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week (BSLW) 2026 from November 1 to 7, aimed at promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable lifestyles through public outreach, citizen engagement and action-oriented initiatives.

Building on the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the initiative encourages individuals, communities and youth to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives.

The week focuses on seven key themes: adopting healthy lifestyles, saving energy, conserving water, adopting sustainable food systems, avoiding single-use plastics, reducing e-waste and minimising waste.

Kakching

Save Water awareness programmes were organised at various locations across Kakching district as part of the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week.

Awareness activities were organised at Keirak Yangdong, Pallel, Keirak-Tentha Road and Hiyanglam, among other locations, under the initiative of the Flood Control and Drainage Division No III, Water Resources Department, Kakching Sub-Division, to sensitise the public to the importance of water conservation, preservation of traditional water systems and protection of local water bodies, while discouraging unnecessary wastage and pollution of water.

The Zonal Education Office, Kakching, also organised Save Water awareness campaign at various educational institutions in the district, including Grace Cottage Cultural and Educational Development Foundation, United Public School, Serou, Lamjao High School, Kakching Khunou High School, and Dhabali High School, Sekmaijin.

Thoubal

BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week (BSLW) 2026 is also observed in Thoubal district.

As a part of the event, Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Yumnam Robita administered Mission LiFE pledge to the District Level Officers at the Conference Hall, DC Office.

The Mission LiFE Pledge (Lifestyle for Environment) is an official commitment to adopt sustainable daily habits and encourage others to protect the environment.

Meanwhile, 'Save Energy Pledge' was also administered to the officials at the SDO Office, Thoubal; Divisional Forest Office (Thoubal Forest Division), District Veterinary Office, Thoubal; District Statistical Office and Wangjing Tentha CD Block, Thoubal Office.

MSPDCL Thoubal Division distributed pamphlets at Wangjing Bazar and Yairipok area.

Awareness and pledge was administered to the students of Lilong 5 Star English School as well.

On the other hand, as part of the 'Save Water' initiative PHED officials inspected the Charangpat Water supply scheme, Tentha Water supply scheme, Yairipok Water supply scheme, Kangsamara Water supply scheme and Phundrei Water supply scheme.
