Bishnupur, August 27 2024:
Aggrieved with the shortage of teachers and the recent transfer of three teachers from the school, students of Thanga Higher Secondary School staged a protest demonstration in front of the school today.
If the concerned authority fails to solve the teacher shortage issue by sending/posting the necessary teachers by August 30, the protesting students have resolved to begin spending the night at the school from August 31 onwards until the issue is resolved.
The protest was organised by DESAM Thanga Higher Secondary School Unit Council.
The students of Thanga Higher Secondary School stood in protest in front of the school holding placards with messages such as "Cancel transfer of three teachers", "Send the remaining lecturers", "Failure to plug teacher shortage is akin to violation of students' rights" among others.
Speaking in this connection, Oinam Gyaneshwari, secretary, publicity & propaganda, DESAM Thanga Higher Secondary School Unit Council said that if the State Government fails to address the teacher shortage issue by August 30, then the students have resolved to collectively spend the night at the school from the next day onwards until their demands are met.
On behalf of the students, she also expressed strong opposition to the order issued by the State Government for the transfer of one Sociology, one Geography and one English teacher from the school in the middle of the year.
As the school was already facing the issue of teacher shortage, the transfer order issued for three teachers from the school is quite unfortunate, she maintained.
Stating that the Thanga MLA and Bishnupur district ZEO have been apprised about the shortage of teachers at Thanga Higher Secondary School, Oinam Gyaneshwari added that failure to address this problem shows negligence towards students' welfare.
