Imphal, May 22 2022: BJYM State unit president Manohormayum Barish Sharma has come out with a clarification on the incident at Thangjing Hill wherein some volunteers of the Morha had an argument with the locals of Torbung over certain issue.

The clips of the incident which took place on May 14 also went viral on social media and it drew contrasting comments from the social media users.

Speaking to media persons at Nityaipat Chuthek today, Barish Sharma claimed that they (BJYM volunteers) went to Thangjing Hill to plant some saplings as a part of "Save Environment, Save Youth, Save Future" campaign on May 14 but they were stopped from proceeding further near Torbung village.

Saying that the BJYM has been carrying out a tree plantation drive along with the Forest Department to mitigate climate change, Barish Sharma said that the argument at Thangjing Hill Ranges broke out as they (BJYM volunteers) were directed to plant only one sapling at the hill by some section of people there.

Continuing that the BJYM volunteers approached the village chief and apprised him the motive of the visit as the youth who obstructed them carried lethal weapons, Barish Sharma claimed that the 'village chief , however, allowed us to plant only one sapling on seeing the emotion of the local youth there' .

"An argument broke out shortly after talking with the village chief as the youth there used harsh language and dictated the BJYM volunteers to not plant any sapling and leave the place," Barish alleged and maintained that they somehow climbed the hill range and planted several tree saplings there.

He claimed that he was accompanied by his PSO in the visit at Thangjing Hill Ranges and there was never any instance of brandishing weapons.

He then appealed to all to stop circulating fake news which can mislead the people.
