Imphal, August 20 2023:
CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri has asked the BJP Governments at the Centre and the State to provide an avenue for the warring communities to hold a dialogue and end the conflict besieging Manipur since the past three months unless they want the violence to linger on.
The Left wing leader also said that from what he had witnessed so far most of the relief camps are in miserable condition and sought the intervention of the Governor to make sure the displaced folks are given basic needs.
Yechury who was on a three-day visit to Manipur from August 18 to 20 spoke on "Danger of communalism- biggest challenge to the secular democratic republic of India" during a discourse held at Manipur Press Club, today.
At the function, he continued that dialogue and not violence is the key to ending the conflict.
Claiming that the Governments don't want to take suggestions from the Opposition parties to stop the fighting among the people, he asked if the Centre and the Manipur Government want the violence to continue.
Yechury further stated that the Opposition parties have been urging the Government to send a delegation of all political parties led by a Union Minister to take stock of the present situation in Manipur and the same was raised in the recent session of Parliament too.
As a double engine Government, the Centre and the State should work doubly hard and bring the parties in conflict to the negotiating table, he said.
To a query, the Left wing leader said that blaming the Central security forces for failing to restore normalcy despite heavy deployment would be wrong as the security forces follow the instructions of the Central Government.
The discourse was organized by CPI (M) Manipur State Unit.
