Imphal, August 20 2023:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) organised a special discussion programme on the role and responsibility of the Meiteis in the valley areas amid the ethnic conflict with the Kukis at Ibudhou Oknarel Laibung, Ningthoukhong today.
AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi president L Memchoubi, Meira Paibi Apunba Lup Bishnupur president L Thambal Leima, UCOBID president W Basanta, WMOWVA president Y Kunjarani, senior journalist A Mobi and AMPMPACO president Manowar Ali attended the programme among others.
At the event, Nando Luwang questioned on what basis the Chief Minister had stated that peace has started returning in the State when there is no let up in firing incidents and bomb attacks on Meitei villages in peripheral areas.
The acts of the State and the Central Government clearly show they are indifferent to the suffering of the people, he charged.
Many lives and immeasurable properties have been lost and many are taking refuge in relief camps in pitiful conditions and the Governments are yet to help rehabilitate them even after three and half months, he said.
Moreover, many farmers are unable to carry out agricultural activities, he said while questioning the ground on which the Manipur Government considers that peace has been restored.
The role of Meiteis in the face of the crisis is for all the community and for the sake of the integrity of the State.
"As such, it is high time we all find out who the enemy of the State is.
The aggression of Kukis is a direct attack on the State's integrity," he said.
Considering the facets of the crisis, the Government of India should conduct a thorough inquiry into the crisis and find out the real culprits, he added.
A Mobi, on the other hand, said that Kuki militants vandalising and desecrating Meitei Temples deliberately is a serious offence against the Meiteis.
Saying that Thangjing Khubam, Koubru Laiphamlen and Kondong Lairembi are some places of worship whose sites couldn't be shifted, he said that these religious sites might have been flattened and torched to establish their settlements using brute force.
