Students stage protest demanding operationalization of DIET Centre

Jiribam, September 19 2026: Intensifying the demand of operationalization of a District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centre in Jiribam district, a sit-in protest was staged today at Jiribam Higher Secondary School.

Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Kangleipak Students' Association organised the today's protest as the Government and authorities concerned failed to actualise the demand raised by the student bodies for a fully functional DIET Centre in Jiribam.

Speaking in connection with the protest, KSA Jiribam District Council president K Somorjit Singh expressed dismay that the authorities concerned failed to fulfill the long pending demand of operationalization of a DIET Centre in Jiribam.

In line with the demand, a memorandum has been submitted to the Governor of Manipur and talks were held with DIET Director, however no positive steps have been taken up, he lamented.

He warned that the students will continue to carry out democratic agitation until their demands are met.

The protesting students used placards which read 'Save the career of students', 'MSF, DESAM and KSA will not support any form of Government activities until a DIET Centre is made operational in Jiribam' and so on.
