MSF holds human chain protest

Imphal, January 14 2026: Continuing their protest, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) organised a human chain at Lamlai Keithel in Imphal East districttoday.

Womenfolk of the area, youths and meira paibis took part in the demonstration today seeking swift and decisive steps from the Manipur Government to protect and promote the Manipuri language.

The protesters raised various slogans highlighting their demands, including, "Protect Manipuri language and save Manipur's integrity", "Reopen Manipuri medium schools/ institutions shuttered by the Government", "Government authorities should introduce Manipuri language dictionary and encyclopedia as soon as possible" and "Ensure all textbooks upto college and university level are available in Manipuri language".

It is worth noting that MSF had submitted memos to the Manipur Governor and other concerned authorities listing their demands surrounding the promotion of Manipur language on May 12, 2025.After prolonged inaction, it launched their ongoing agitation on November 12, 2025.MSF has sought the cooperation and support of the public in their protests.
