Thoubal, October 29 2026:
The members of Bishnunaha Youth Federation Yairipok (BYFY) locked the Sub-Deputy Collector (SDC) office, Yairipok, located at Bishnunaha in Thoubal district today over alleged irregularities, frequent absence from duty by SDC officer and other staff members causing inconvenience to the public.
The BYFY also demanded the transfer of these irresponsible and incompetent officers.
In a video clip released by the organisation, BYFY president Ananda Laishram said that the members of BYFY inspected the office following several complaints from residents of the surrounding areas regarding the hardships faced by them for various official services owing to the alleged frequent absence of the officer in-charge and other staff members.
He said the office had repeatedly remained closed, forcing people who came to obtain essential documents and services to face unnecessary difficulties.
During the inspection, only three to four staff members were reportedly found present, while the SDC officer was allegedly absent even after 11:30 am.
The organisation also claimed that several staff members had failed to sign the office attendance register.
Ananda said people visit the office to obtain income certificates, Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates, domicile certificates, land pattas and other essential documents.
He alleged that residents, particularly those from distant villages, had been facing inconvenience due to the repeated closure of the office.
He further claimed that people seeking services had allegedly been asked to pay excessive amounts of money.
Expressing concern over the difficulties faced by the public, the BYFY president urged the authorities to ensure that the SDC and other staff members attend office regularly and perform their duties diligently.
He also demanded their transfer if they fail to deliver their duties responsibly.
He further appealed to the public to cooperate with BYFY in its efforts to make the SDC Yairipok office more accessible and free from alleged corruption and irregularities.
He urged residents not to offer money for services that should be provided through the proper official process and encouraged them to support the initiative for a more transparent and accountable administration.
