Imphal, October 27 2026:
The Lousangkhong Village Welfare Development Committee and Khutsamnana Chatminasi VLF have stated that paddy cultivation in Lousangkhong Loukon may fail as over 80 percent of the fields have dried up.
Speaking to the media at Lousangkhong Loukon, Lousangkhong Village Welfare Development Committee member Haorongbam Samananda said except for a few fields that get water from Iril river, most fields have not been able to grow paddy properly due to water scarcity.
He said as most of the fields are on the verge of drying, farmers are in distress and urged authorities to inspect the condition.
Khutsamnana Chatminasi VLF member Wairokpam Chaobi said the VLF, formed jointly by Lousangkhong and Sekta Awang, has been extending support to farmers from the time of sowing to harvesting.
However, many farmers who took loans for cultivation from tilling to fertilizing are now facing crop failure and inability to repay loans due to lack of water, she added.
She appealed to farmers to assess the condition of their fields before investing further in cultivation.
