Thoubal, November 04 2026:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader and Wangkhem Assembly Constituency MLA Keisham Meghachandra has urged the State Government to ensure adequate healthcare facilities to upgrade Community Health Centre (CHC) Yairipok into a fully functional healthcare institution.
He said the Government should surrender its responsibility if it is unable to provide essential healthcare services to the public.
He made the above statement while addressing media persons after inspecting the present condition of CHC Yairipok which is under Wangkhem AC in Thoubal district.
Highlighting that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental necessity for the people, Meghachandra expressed concern over the Government's inability to ensure proper functioning of healthcare centres across the State.
He alleged that several health centres are facing difficulties in delivering essential services due to shortages of doctors, nurses and other medical staff, leaving patients to suffe and lack of adequate health care facilities.
Stressing the importance of CHC Yairipok, Meghachandra said the Centre serves not only residents of Wangkhem and Heirok Assembly Constituencies in Thoubal district but also patients from Andro Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district and several areas of Kamjong district.
He stated that more than 150 patients visited the Outpatient Departmenf (OPD) of the health centre today and said that it is one of the busiest healthcare centres in the region in terms of patient attendance.
Citing the shortage of nursing staff, Meghachandra questioned how a busy community health centre could function effectively with just three nurses when it is supposed to have nine nurses.
He demanded that the Government fill the vacant posts and provide adequate doctors, nurses and other supporting staff for the effective functioning of CHC Yairipok.
Meghachandra also expressed hope that the Government would take the necessary steps to strengthen CHC Yairipok ensuring that residents of the surrounding region receive proper medical attention.
Today's inspection visit was attended by senior spokesperson of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) N Bupenda Meitei; CHC Yairipok Medical Officer-in-charge Dr Robinson, members of the Hospital Management Committee, Wangkhem Block Congress Committee working president Sorokhaibam Kunjeshwor and several other party workers.
