Imphal, November 03 2026:
All Manipur Fishery Fanners Union (AMFFU) has urged the Government to provide crop compensation to farmers and fish farmers affected by floods, drought and hailstorm in the last three years ahead of Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Addressing media at Thangjing Hall, Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today, AMFFU general secretary Angom Tiken said in 2024, large areas of Manipur valley were devastated by floods, with water even entering Raj Bhavan, and floods occurred thrice that year.
In 2025, the valley again faced floods, while this year drought and hailstorm destroyed crops and livestock, including fish and poultry reared at homes.
He said though the Central Government had sanctioned crores of rupees as compensation for these calamities in the last three years, farmers and fish farmers are yet to receive it.
He appealed to the Government to release the assistance before Ningol Chakkouba so that farmers can celebrate the festival.
