International Dance Day observed, seminar held

In line with the celebration of International Dance Day, the Department of Dance and Music, Manipur University organised a 1-day international seminar on the theme, "Universal peace and harmony through dance and music" at its lecture hall today.
It was attended by Prof S Imoba Singh, Dean, School of Humanities; Dr M Thoiba Singh, Head, Department of Dance and Music and Th Chaotombi Singh, former Production in-charge of JNMDA Imphal as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof S Imoba Singh said that different subjects on dance & music have been taught for years at the Department of Dance and Music, MU.
He continued that the Department has produced many outstanding students who have made significant contributions in the field of art & culture.
Dr M Thoiba Singh elaborated on the need to teach traditional dance & music to the present generation in order to promote & preserve the cultural heritage of Manipur.
Similarly, International Dance Day was also celebrated today at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium in Palace Compound organised by the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur.
It was attended by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee N Amusana and Art & Culture Commissioner, M Joy as presidium members.
Dance performances by different cultural groups was the main highlight of the event.
