Imphal, April 09 2018:
A non-local man who married two local women and is allegedly involved in bringing non-locals into the State has been found changing his surname to "Luwangthem" in his documents.
Addressing a press meet held today at their Keishampat office, MSF vice president N Jugeshwar conveyed that one Gyanendro Das (65) hailing from Silchar was found to have changed his name to "Luwangthem Gyanendro Das" in various documents, including his Aadhaar card.
He further informed that Gyanendro's native place is Silchar in Assam and he lives with his two wives in two different locations in Imphal.
Gyanendro is also enrolled in the voter list of 10/33 Uripok A/C and possesses many valid documents with the name "Luwangthem Gyanendro Das", including an Aadhaar card.
He already has five children with the first wife, Jugeshwar added.
Informing that the Gyanendro Das owns two cruisers bearing registration numbers AS1CC4265 and AS1CC4107, the vice president asserted that there was also an incident of the nonlocal man being involved in a case of bringing non-locals having no documents into the State in the past.
Gyanendro claimed that he changed his surname as well as of his family members after taking consent from authorities concerned.
Maintaining that such trend of changing surnames of non-locals into the surnames of indigenous communities amidst the incessant influx of migrants into the State is a big threat to all communities in the State, Jugeshwar asked the authorities of "Luwangthem Sagei" to clarify whether they have any customary norms of roping in non-locals in their "sagei" .
He also drew the attention of the Government and its agencies concerned on such developments.
