66th Republic Day celebration held across State

The 66th Republic Day was celebrated at all district headquarters across the State and other places yesterday.
At Chandel, Republic Day was celebrated at Maha Union Higher Sec School ground with Chandel DC Ningthoujam Geoffrey as the chief guest.
CO of 8th MR, Khamnam Robinson received the guard of honour from the parade contingents.
Presentation of cultural items also marked the occasion.
The 66th Republic Day celebration in Churachandpur witnessed a major departure in its appeal with local artistes presenting songs dominating the 3-hour long festivity as against the customary theme of cultural diversity.
Nevertheless the mandatory slots of unfurling tri-colour, march past etc remained unaffected while stalls, march past and cultural items had their presence.
There was no sign of tableaux though.

In all, 31 contingents participated in the march-past while a good number of individuals both civil and employed personnel were given several awards.
The Assam Rifles and Border Security Force gave special presentations as well.
Later in the day, there was a friendly soccer match between public leaders and the DLOs.
Meanwhile, in a record of sort the newly instituted District and Session Court Churachandpur observed the office's first Republic Day at the Court complex with District and Session Judge Th Saimon Singh hoisting the National Flag at 11 am.
Members of the local bar and bench, prosecutors, Court staff and security personnel of the Court complex were reportedly in attendance.
People of Kangpokpi and its adjoining areas celebrated the 66th Indian Republic Day organized by ADC Kangpokpi at ADC Complex, Kangpokpi.
Apart from former Kangpokpi AC MLA Thangminlen Kipgen and a host of elected MDCs and district level officers of Sadar Hills, more than 400 people including various CSO leaders, village chiefs, Church leaders, students attended the grand celebration.
Addl DC Kangpokpi, DK Thangboi who attended as the chief guest unfurled the National flag.
Red blankets, sports materials and award in various fields were distributed on the occasion.
A friendly football match between district level officers and Kangpokpi Town Committee was also exhibited.
A grand feast marked the occasion.
As celebrated in other parts of the country, the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), Ministry of Home Affairs also celebrated the 66th Republic Day at Imphal Airport, a statement issued by CASO/ Deputy Commandant informed.
Imphal Airport Director Kuldip Singh hoisted the National Flag in the presence of CASO/Deputy Commandant PD Gaisung, ASG Imphal airport on the occasion, it added.
Republic Day celebration was also held at Gamnom-Sapermeina with village chiefs, public, officers and staff of SDO Gamnom-Sapermeina.
Unfurling of the National Flag, parade from participating contingents and presentation of cultural items marked the celebration besides distribution of certificates to deserving officers and sports material to the locals.
The programme was attended by N Surjit Singh, SDO as the chief guest while OC of Gamnom- Sapermeina PS was the parade commander.
Red blankets were also presented to selected chiefs.
At Senapati district headquarters, the celebration programme was held at Mini-Stadium ground with DC Jacintha Lazarus attending the function as the chief guest.
Contingent of Manipur police, ex-servicemen, scouts, students and cultural troupes took part in the march past.
A football match between NPO 11 and DC 11 was also organised by the Sports Dept as part of the celebration.
At Tamenglong, the celebration function at Mini-Stadium, Lower ground was attended by DC RH Gonmei as the chief guest.
A total of 23 contingents including schools, civil police, MR and VDF took part in the march past while H Laukho, SDPO, Tamenglong was the parade commander.
The JNV contingent was adjudged the winner of the march past competition.
The 66th Republic Day was also celebrated at Basu Ground, Thoubal.
DC (Thoubal) T Ranjit Singh unfurled the National flag and received the salute from 54 march past contingents.
Cultural programme, meritorious award distribution ceremony and display by 2 AR band marked the celebration.
ZP members and GP members, officers and staff of various Govt departments took part in the celebration function.
At Ukhrul, the celebration programme was held at Pakshi ground, Hunpung with DC Hrisheekesh Modak attending as the chief guest.
The parade commander was Thonu Rockey, MPS.
A total of 26 march past contingent took part in the event.
Sainik School, Imphal celebrated 66th Republic Day with great zeal and enthusiasm here on Monday.
Gp Capt (Dr) DD Mishra, the school Principal unfurled the National tri-colour and addressed the cadets reminding them of the significance of the celebrations.
Conveying his warm greetings'to the staff, cadets and family members, the Principal recollected the historical events from Puma Swaraj till the present India, informed a statement issued by the PRO (Defence), Imphal.
As part of the celebrations, two contingents of 52 cadets each and school band consisting of 17 cadets also took part in the State Republic Day celebrations held at 1st Manipur Rifles.
The school contingent was adjudged best marching contingent in the State and won prizes.
On the occasion, various activities like speech competition, bara khanna and sweets distribution were organised in the school.
Cdt Soungboy (Class X) of Netaji House and Cdt Birkamazeljit (Class XII) of Raman House bagged first and second position respectively in the speech competition.
The winners were awarded with certificates and cash prizes.
Cdt Naoba (Class VI) of Tikendrajit House was given special award for his speech with an aim to encourage the young cadets of the school.
