Imphal, May 24:
Along with oganising a one day consultation programme at its office located in the office complex of DC, Imphal West today, Manipur State Commission for Women has launched its campaign titled "Wake up, women".
The consultation programme was attended by Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) WA Shishak as chief guest, MHRC member Ng Nongyai as functional president and former VC of Manipur University IS Khaidem and MHRC member RK Rajendra as guests of honour.
Giving key-note address of the function, MSCW chairperson Dr Ch Jamini highlighted the activities and experiences of MSCW since its establishment.
She stated that mental, psychological and physical re-integration of women victims of social crimes and domestic violence is the first objective of the Commission.
To facilitate re-integration of such women, it is not enough to pay attention to the victimised women only.
It also needs thorough counselling of the family members of their husbands.
As such, the Commission has taken up family counselling initiatives, she said.
In its short period of about one year and a half, the MSCW came across 50 different cases.
Of these, many women victimised in several cases have been successfully re-integrated, Jamini informed.
On the new campaign, "Wake up, women" launched today, Jamini said that a series of seminars and workshops on welfare programmes, issues and problems related to women would be organised under the campaign.
Recommendations adopted in these seminars and workshops would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for further necessary actions, Jamini said.
