Tribal consultative meet opposes ST for Meetei demand

Imphal, March 23 2023: The tribal consultative meeting on the demand of Meetei/Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities for inclusion in the ST category unanimously reaffirmed the opposition to the ST status demand of the Meetei/Meitei, and Meitei Pangal.

It also endorsed the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur to continue pursuing the matter and chalk out action plans to consolidate the voice of the people.

The tribal consultative meeting was held today at Amity Hall, Adimjati, Complex, Imphal chaired by senior tribal leader Ngachonmi Chamroy.

All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) president Paotinthang Lupheng delivered the keynote address at the meeting attended by various prominent tribal leaders including apex organization leaders, women and student leaders.

After a thorough discussion, the tribal leaders reaffirmed their support to the causes ATSUM is championing for the people while members from different hill districts expressed their fear and anxiety if ST status is granted to the Meetei/Meitei, and Meitei Pangal communities that will open a flood-gate to further exploit the scheduled tribes in Manipur.
