Thoubal, November 20 2024:
Supporters of Kakching Assembly Constituency MLA M Rameshwar have vehemently condemned the attack on Kakching Assembly Constituency MLA M Rameshwar by a disgruntled mob on the night ofNovember 16 while terming it as "life threatening".
This statement was issued in a public meeting held at the residence of MLA M Rameshwar located in Kakching Makha Leikai.
The unfortunate incident that happened on November 16 was a result of public outrage following the gruesome killing of six civilians by Kuki militants in Jiribam.
Stating that the supporters of the Kakching MLA understand and do not oppose such public sentiment, they interjected that unlike the storming of State legislators' residences in other places, the attack on M Rameshwar was politically motivated and sought to allegedly humiliate the MLA before the public.
The attack was a scheme to exploit the unrest in Manipur and take political mileage out of it, said the supporters of MLA M Rameshwar.
On the fateful day, a memorandum was submitted to the MLA urging him to make his stance clear to the public on the decision to submit his resignation within 48 hours.
The MLA had assured that he will go by the people's verdict whether to continue his office or submit resignation, said the supporters.
"The MLA must not resign from his post when some politically motivated people demand it.
It is not the right time to resign from his position of MLA amid the crisis in the State and believe that he will stand for the integrity of the State", said the supporters in the meeting.
Later, a two minute silence was observed to honour the martyrs who have laid down their lives as well as the innocent civilians killed by suspected Kuki militants during the Manipur conflict.
