Imphal, September 19 2026: The Sky Hospital and Research Centre has performed a Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) using a special technique reportedly for the first time in Manipur.

Addressing a press conference held at the hospital on RIMS Road today, cardiac surgeon Professor Ajay Kaul said MICS is less time-consuming and reduces the difficulties faced by patients undergoing conventional open-heart surgery.

He explained that the minimally invasive procedure involves smaller incisions, resulting in less pain, a reduced risk of infection and faster recovery for patients.

Prof Ajay also said that patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery do not have to stay in a hospital for a long period.

He further said that the availability of a team of trained MICS surgeons at Sky Hospital marks a significant advancement in cardiac surgery in the State.

Chairman of Sky Hospital Dr L Shyamkishore said that his hospital has become the first in Manipur to perform minimally invasive cardiac surgery, marking a significant milestone in cardiac surgery in the State.

He also said that the minimally invasive procedure involves less blood loss, minimal surgical scarring, faster recovery and earlier discharge of patients.
