For the second consecutive year, Manipur has bagged the champion's trophy on imparting training on prevention of birth asphyxia.
The trophy was handed over to NRPFGF Manipur State branch Academic Coordinator Dr Longjam Basanta at the pre-conference workshop of the 51st IAP National Conference (PAEDICON) recently held at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
After winning the award for registering lowest infant mortality rate in the country for the second time, Indian Academy of Paediatric (IAP) awarded the champion's trophy to the State in recognition to the exemplary performance shown in the field of imparting training on prevention of birth asphyxia.
Dr L Basanta said that newly born babies generally face the problem of breathlessness, which is known as birth asphyxia in medical terminology.
Birth asphyxia training for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff was conducted in 2011 for the first time in Manipur, he said.
