World Mental Health Day observed

World Mental Health Day was observed today at the District Hospital Jiribam under the theme 'Mental health is a universal human right' .
The observation of World Mental Health Day was jointly organised by the District Mental Health Programme and District Health Society, Jiribam.
Dr Justin Haobam, MD (Medicine); Dr N Soroja Devi, District Nodal Officer and Dr Amir Khan graced the occasion as the presidium members.
Speaking in connection with the programme, District Program Manager, District Health Society Jiribam, Ch Basanta Singh deliberated on the various symptoms of mental illness such as anxiety disorders, depression, anger issues, being suicidal, addictive behaviours and so on.

He also maintained that timely treatment such as counselling and proper care and support from family members and friends will help a mentally ill individual strive towards the path of recovery thereby leading a healthy and progressive life.
Dr N Soroja appealed to all to call at toll free number 14416 if one experiences mental health issues and talk with the dedicated mental health experts and visit the nearby hospitals to avail relevant treatments.
Highlighting that stress, anxiety and other mental health issues is a common problem of today's society, Dr Justin Haobam said that following a healthy routine such as doing yoga or meditation, refrain from taking intoxicants, getting proper sleep, consulting a counsellor or an expert regarding mental issues etc will help a great deal in overcoming mental health issues.
