Meira Paibis protest Salungpham killing, hunger strike completes 48 days

Imphal, January 02 2025: Vehemently condemning the killing of a "village volunteer" at Salungpham by security forces, ApunbaMeiraPaibiLup,Takyel Kolom Leikai and YPC Club jointly staged a protest demonstration at Takyel Kolom Leikai Community Hall today.

Apart from condemning the killing of the village volunteer, the protesters demanded unconditional and immediate release of all the village volunteers arrested by police and complete repeal of AFSPA 1958 from Manipur.

Speaking to the media.

Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president Aheibam (o) Pumimashi denounced the Governments handling of the prolonged conflict which has been going on for more than 19 months.

"The village volunteers came out to defend Meetei villages due to the failure of the Centre and the State Government in protecting the lives and properties of the people", said Pumnimashi while adding that the Government needs to understand the circumstances which compelled the youths who should be going to schools and colleges to take up arms.

Pumimashi also urged the Government to take strong action against all the police personnel involved in the killing and release the six village volunteers without any condition at the earliest.

Placards with the writings such as, "We condemn killing of Village Volunteers", "Release Village Volunteers without any condition", "Police Commandos show your might against Kuki Narco Terrorists", "Repeal AFSPA, 1958", etc were used at the protest.

Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike launched by Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) at Uripok Canteen Crossing demanding justice for the six women and children who were killed by Kuki terrorists in Jiribam, has completed 48 days today.

Meira Paibis of Tourangbam Leikai participated in the relay hunger strike in the morning, UCAL Club and UWA Meira Bachaspati Sinam Leikai in the afternoon and Achom Leikai Club and Lane 1 to 4 Meira at night, said press release issued by UAL .
