Imphal, June 08:
Stating that several labour laws have been enacted, Labour Minister Ph Parijat advised all labourers to learn about these legislations.
Addressing the third annual conference of the All Manipur Shops and Establishments Employees' Association at Kangla Hall here today, Parijat observed that until and unless the labourers are aware of these legislations, any number of labour laws enacted for the welfare of labour class will remain useless.
He called upon the labour class to remember that Labour Dept was specifically set up for the welfare of wage earners and labourers.
Observing that the name Labour Dept seems to be inappropriate in the present time, the Minister asserted that it would be apt to name it Labour Welfare Dept.
He appealed to all the people to realise that the Dept is there to ensure the rights and welfare of wage earners and labourers.
Until and unless, labourers know the laws entitled to them, they will never feel secure, he noted while observing that there are many people who are forced to forgo their meals when they stop working for a day.
Deputy Labour Commissioner E Tomba, speaking at the occasion, explained different labour laws.
