Thoubal, November 20 2024:
In continuation of widespread public demonstrations witnessed across the State follow ing the gruesome killing of three women and three children in Jiribam, Heirok Apunba Club and Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi organised a sit-in protest at Heirok Keithel today.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Ningthoujam Rita, co-convenor, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi accused the State Government of disregarding deaths in the foothills and peripheral regions of the State.
Expressing incredulence at the prolonged Manipur crisis, she questioned the silence of the double-engine Government at a stage when the conflict has caused untold grief and hardships to the people.
Recalling previous instances of deaths during the conflict, she said that aside from some public outcry and offering of compensation, such matters are swept under the rug and only the families of the victims suffer the losses.
Meanwhile, Ningthoujam Ibenaobi, daughter of Yurembam Rani, one of the victims of Jiribam killings, has demanded the State Government to apprehend the Kuki militants responsible for the brutal killings within three days.
She also appealed for stringent punishment to be doled out to the perpetrators.
Protestors at today's demonstration held placards with slogans such as "Declare Kuki militants involved in killing of innocent civilians as terrorists", "Revoke AFSPA from Manipur".
"State legislators incapable of protecting people should resign" and "Justice for the rape and killing of three women and three minors" among others.
