Imphal, January 14 2026:
A public gathering titled "Sagolband Meepham" was held today at Sagolband Thingom Leikai Community Hall to discuss the practices and customs involved in pertinent ceremonial rituals from one' s birth till death (rites of passage).
As per a release issued by Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin, Manipur, the gathering deliberated on the growing incorporation of extravagant and non-traditional practices in religious & cultural ceremonies, particularly weddings.
The gathering unanimously resolved to restrict extravagant modem additions in traditional rituals such as lavish tent setups, excessive decorations, and costly elements (like ring exchanges, cake cutting) that burden families financially and dilute cultural authenticity.
The gathering also decided to support & strictly comply with the resolution adopted by the people on August 10, 2024, aimed at restricting deteriorating practices and customs in Meitei ceremonial rituals.
Highlighting the need for community effort to preserve traditional essence, the participants also took a collective resolution to promote simpler and more meaningful rituals that are rooted in Manipur's rich cultural legacy.
The meeting was attended by Longjamcha Sanathoi, vice-president, EYOL; P Dhanachandra, vice president, YWC; A Kameshore, president, LDA; K Imoba Singh, president, Thingom Leikai Community Hall Committee; and Kh Bino, president, Thingom Leikai Meira Paibi as presidium members.
