Man gets life sentence for homicide

Session Judge Thoubal Samom Ibjen today sentenced Shamurailatpam Shyamkesho (43) to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the murder of Mutum Amumacha Singh on the afternoon of December 6, 2015 .
The convict Shamurailatpam Shyamkesho Sharma s/o Sh Nando Sharma of Kakmayai Leikai was produced before the Court from Manipur Central Jail for sentencing today.
He was convicted by the same Court on December 16 after the trial of the case.
While the Special PP of the State requested the Court to award maximum sentence to Sh Shyamkesho, his defense counsel pleaded that he is aged and a reformed person after being in judicial custody for more than 9 years.
After hearing the submission, the Court sentenced Sh Shyamkesho to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of Rs 10,000 .
The fine is to be paid within 6 months from the date of passing the order.
It will be deposited to the Court and given to the kin of the deceased victim.
The Court order also mentioned that the remand and under trial period served by the convict (9 years) will be deducted from the sentence awarded.
Notably, the case against the convict was based on the complaint lodged by the younger brother of the victim at Nongpok Sekmai police station.
The complaint stated that on December 6, 2015 at around 12:10 pm, his elder brother Mutum Amumacha Singh (32), s/o (L) M Modhu Singh and one Sairom Poreiton Singh (37) s/o (L) S Bari Singh both from Kakmayai Mayai Leikai were stabbed close to the chest by Shamurailatpam Shyamkesho Sharma while they were standing near Kakmayai Mayai Leikai Pukhri Mapal.
The first victim died of multiple injuries and the second one was hospitalized.
On the same day, the accused Shamurailatpam Shyamkesho Singh was arrested from his house.
On preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that he murdered the victim and attempted to kill the other.
He concealed the knife at his residence.
