Our future lies in agriculture sector: CM

Chief Minister N Biren has stated that some officials who did not pick up phones when people dialled women's Helpline number 181 opened at Imphal West DC Office complex, Lamphelpat as well as some other officials who were found absent have been placed under suspension .
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop on "Strengthening of Lab to Land Module" and release of action plan on "Doubling of Farmers' income by 2022 in Manipur" held at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal today.
The function was organised by the Department of Agriculture .
He warned that the Government would take up befitting action against all derelict officials .
Pointing that the Helpline and the associated office was opened to render immediate assistance to women in distress, the Chief Minister asked what was the purpose of opening such an office if it was not working .
He categorically stated that the future of the State lies in agriculture and tourism sectors and the new Government is committed to give extra focus on these sectors .
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Chief Minister stressed that, "We need systematic marketing of products, enabling double cropping and proper rain water or ground water harvesting so as to improve agriculture sector in the State".
Highlighting the limited agricultural land of the State, N Biren said, "If we don't preserve and protect agricultural land, agricultural sector cannot be sustained and developed in the State.
The Government has directed all the concerned DCs and authorities to take up necessary steps for preservation of agricultural land for agricultural and horticultural purposes" .
The Chief Minister said that systematic thinking, punctuality and discipline is the sole mantra in bringing growth and development in the State .
He further said, "It is high time that we change our mindset and behaviour and execute our duties with responsibility for an inclusive development in the State."
He appealed to all the departments of the State to invite learned persons and experts from Universities etc.
and constitute a sub-committee or advisory board to work for development and broaden the area of operation of the departments .
