CCpur runs marathon against drug abuse

CCpur, June 27 2017:
As many as 400 people including local youth, bureaucrats, politicians and student leaders participated in the mini-marathon organised by the District Police in collaboration with the District Administration Churachand- pur on Monday to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the theme, 'Choose Life, Say NO to Drugs.'
The long distance run was held in two categories � a 5-km mini-marathon for women, and a 10-km mini-marathon for men .
It was jointly flagged off by Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte and Singngat MLA Ginsuanhau Zou from S Kotlian and K Salbung villages .
The Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Shyam Lal Poonia, SP Rakesh Balwal, former ADC Chairman Langkhanpau Guite and several Assam Rifles officials also joined the band of youth that made it to the finish line .
Monica Ramthienghlim clocked the 5-km distance in 30 minutes to win the junior title for women while Mercy Chongchanhoi conquered the senior category by making it to the finish line also in 30 minutes .
Junior boys outran the seniors with Moirangthem Bishworjit Singh from the junior category completing the race in 44 minutes; 19 seconds ahead of Paulemthang, the winner in the senior category .
The three main prizes for each of the categories, the top 20 and other finishers were awarded on the fringes of the finishing line at Lamka College, New Lamka .
Vungzagin Valte, ADC Chairman Khaipao Haokip, ADC members Langkhanpau and CT Lian along with the Brig of 27 Sector AR handed over the trophies.
