Imphal, November 21 2024:
The Manipur State Committee of the All India Forward Bloc has claimed that the prolonged unrest in Manipur is the manifestation of the State sponsored proxy war.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, president of the Committee Khomdram Gyaneshwar said that they are prepared to stage a hunger strike in front of the Prime Minister's Office and the Parliament complex during the upcoming Parliament which will begin from November 25 .
He said that they, however, will see first whether the MPs discuss the situation in Manipur before staging the demonstration.
Saying that they will start their protest from December 11 if there is no serious discussion on the Manipur crisis and expose the unethical conduct of the Government in front of the world, he said that they have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister regarding their proposed protest demonstration through the Governor.
A copy of the memorandum has also been submitted to the Chief Minister, Gyaneshwar added.
He said that their demands to the Government is to break the cycle of bloodshed and violence, disarm the people in both the hill and valley districts, rein in the Kuki militant groups under SoO pact who are openly involved in the conflict, start a dialogue between the warring sides, take up all possible measures to resettle the displaced people to their native places and to provide a one time financial assistance which is not less than Rs 1 lakh to all the displaced families among others.
Claiming that the unrest in Manipur is the handiwork of the Government, he appealed to the Centre to stop their alleged proxy war immediately.
Manipur has been in a restive situation since May 3, 2023 and there is still no sign there will be normalcy in the State anytime soon, he added.
Saying that the protracted crisis has taken a heavy toll on all communities in Manipur, he added that the Government, unfortunately, hasn't taken up any concrete measure to restore normalcy as of yet.
He said that different organisations and political parties may have submitted 400-500 memoranda to the Government but the latter hasn't taken up any initiative to build confidence among the people.
It is the responsibility of the Government to work out a solution to the protracted crisis besetting Manipur, Gyaneshwar said.
Saying that no sincerity is seen from both the Centre and the State to end the conflict, he asked whether the Government has been implementing a discreet agenda in Manipur amid the crisis.
It is the double standard of the Centre and the spinelessness of the State Government which let Manipur to burn, he added.
