All eyes on NE for development of science

Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan said allocation of fund for development of science in North Eastern region of the country has been increased manifold for keeping the region at par with the rest of the country .
He said this while inaugurating India International Science Festival, IISF-2017 today at Anna University, Chennai.
The festival which remained earlier confined to the capital city Delhi only has been shifted to Chennai this year .
"This festival is a part of the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India progressive by 2022.Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India has in mind that the suffering of the ma-sses can be alleviated when science gains the growth it deserves covering every part of the country," he said
The Union Minister informed the gathering that science festival was started two years back with an aim to involve all in the development of science.
India had seen a qualitative leap in the popularisation of science, which would play a vital role in solving unsolved issues of the country.
The focus on the development of science has been increased and this was reflected in the budgetary allocation.
There has been 60 percent hike in the allocation of budget.
India now stands at 9th position in the development of science .
It may be worth mentioning here that the Manipur Minister for Science and Technology Y Joykumar who is also the Deputy Chief Minister had informed the media sometime back that the Government of Manipur in collaboration with the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Takyelpat under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India had put up a proposal for setting up a Science City in Manipur.
He was hopeful that the Government of India would endorse the proposal .
Dr Harsh Vardhan was all praise for the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee for their long vision and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who brought science to the centre stage of development.
He said science in India was not inferior to any other developed countries of the world.
"Our development in the field of science deserve celebration," he said .
He also informed the gathering that a new addition in the form of science teacher workshop under the nomenclature National Science Teachers' Workshop (focusing North East States) has been made as a new feature.
The main objective of this workshop would be to sow science in the minds of the young students of the region.
As these young students grow up, science will grow up and branch out giving shade to all .
The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences YS Chowdary giving his welcome address at the function said science had seen massive development.
Yet more needed to be done for achieving the target the Government has set.
