DESAM draws Govt attention to Kakching school

Imphal, August 08, 2013: Continuing with their school inspection drive, volunteers of DESAM today made an assessment of Kakching Higher Secondary School.

Speaking to media persons at their office this afternoon, DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin sought attention of the Government to look into shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff as well as other infrastructure requirements.

He said that the school has 738 students during this academic session which is not at all proportionate to the available infrastructure.

If the available infrastructure cannot cater to the requirements of students, it would be difficult to impart quality education.

Saying that Kakching Higher School is one of the few Government schools which produced meritorious students till last year, Islauddin observed that the number of students enrolled in the school is much beyond the school's capacity.

As against 738 students, the school has 10 regular Lecturers apart from the Principal and the Vice-Principal.

In addition, there are 24 contract Lecturers.

Two grade IV employees comprise the school's no teaching staff and there is no Chowkidar or LDCs.

Although the school is equipped with four toilets, only two are serviceable and they are used by both students and teachers after identifying one for male and the other for female.

As such, students and teachers can be seen standing in queue in front of the toilets.

The school has neither library room nor computer though it has 30 computer sets.

In the absence of laboratory attendants, the teachers have been doing the works of attendants.

There is need for appointment of two teachers each for all Science subjects including Mathematics.

English and Manipuri subjects require four teachers each.

In addition, it is urgently required to appoint one UDC, one Librarian and laboratory attendants, Islauddin said while appealing to the Government to fulfil these requirements without any delay.

The school was constructed in 2005 with Manipur Tribal Development Corporation as work agency but five beams got snapped in the middle and they are being supporter by timbers.

Given this condition, students feel insecure to attend class.

The Government should take strong actions against the particular contractor so that such negligence and irresponsibility is averted in future, Islauddin added.
