Bishnupur, April 10 2019:
CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pushing the State and the entire North East region into turmoil by signing a Framework Agreement with NSCN-IM and introducing CAB 2016 in the Lok Sabha.
He was speaking at a political conference held today at Ningthoukhong Kha-Mamang Leikai (Ward No 7) as a part of INC candidate in Inner Manipur PC Oinam Nabakishore's flag hoisting ceremony.
Ibobi said that voters need to do a comparative study of the merits and demerits of the previous Governments, incumbent Government and candidates contesting in the 17th Lok Sabha election.
"Every time there is BJP or BJP-led Government at the Centre, Manipuri people and people of the North East are put at the receiving end perhaps because we look different or they don't respect us", Ibobi asserted.
Manipur was literally put on flames when the previous BJP-led Government headed by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee signed a cease fire agreement without territorial limit with NSCN-IM.
Then the Modi Government signed a Framework Agreement with NSCN-IM and introduced CAB 2016 in the Lok Sabha thereby pushing the State and the entire North East region into turmoil, Ibobi said.
The Mizo Accord, the Punjab Accord and the Assam Accord were signed when there was Congress Government at the Centre but all these accords were signed after all the details were made public.
However, all the details of the Framework Agreement are still kept a closely guarded secret.
As such, it appears that there is secret agenda behind the scene, Ibobi decried while demanding disclosure of the Framework Agreement's details.
He said that it's time for the people to turn their back to BJP which has been threatening the country's secularism and democracy.
It is crucial for all the people to ponder over what the Narendra Modi Government did for Manipur and the North Eastern States during the past five years before exercising their right to vote, Ibobi said.
He then appealed to all the people to elect the two Congress candidates so as to re-establish democratic rule in the country.
The political conference jointly organised by Election Campaign Committee Bishnupur and Bishnupur Block Congress Committee was attended by a large number of Congress workers.
Speaking at the gathering, MPCC president and CWC member Gaikhangam reiterated that the ensuing election is a battle between BJP and people, and Congress party always stands for the people.
Addressing a similar election rally held at Moirang Khoyangbam Leikai, Gaikhangam said that a foreign tourist's visit is more beneficial to the State than Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five visits to the State.
The Prime Minister of India visited the State very rarely when Congress ruled Manipur for 15 years but the rare visits were quite meaningful as the Prime Minister always announced special packages for the State, Gaikhangam said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the State five times as the State's BJP-led Government has completed just around two years and a half in office.
But neither did Modi anything beneficial for the State nor did he announce any package, Gaikhangam remarked.
He said that the ensuing election is a perfect opportunity to uproot BJP which has been viewing and treating all the people of the entire North East including Manipur with utter disrespect.
Oinam Nabakishore appealed to all the people to ponder over AMSU's announcement to uproot BJP from the soil of Manipur.
The incumbent BJP-led Government does not understand laws.
There is no law which warrants invocation of National Security Act for criticising a Government or an individual.
Moreover, the individual who was slapped NSA was a journalist, Nabakishore said.
Asserting that he is contesting the election in the interest of the people, the Congress candidate vowed that he would never turn his back on any public issue and he would always work together with the public.
