Delhi Police assure safety of NE people

Commissioner of Delhi Police, Alok Varma (IPS) has assured all out effort for the safety of Northeasterners who are living in the national capital.
It was assured by the Police Commissioner during his meeting with a group of social activists, retired army officers, lady advocates, students' and community leaders from the eight states of the Northeast region in Delhi on Friday.
During the meeting, the delegates appraised the Commissioner on matters relating to crimes against Northeast people, and appreciated initiatives taken up by Delhi Police, all members emphasize the need for sensitization at lower level.
While urging the Commissioner to expedite few cases of high profile natures, the delegates also requested for effective and robust mechanism by Delhi Police Special Unit for North East Region through appropriate logistics, legal frameworks etc.
The Commissioner of Police informed the delegates that police have got land for Northeast Special Unit at Nanakpura in New Delhi, other required support will be provided after examining these requirements including manpower etc.
A total number of 450 Northeast youth, who have been recruited through special recruitment from the region will be deployed at appropriate areas for better security of those area, where Northeasterners are living in large numbers and vulnerability of crimes are high.
The was highly appreciated of the community services on self help basis rendered by Northeast community leaders and assured that Delhi Police will be with them always.
The delegate garlanded the newly appointed with traditional tribal mufflers including Manipuri and Nagaland jacket.
