Court fixes Aug 30 for hearing

The Special Court of NIA Manipur on Tuesday fixed August 30 to hear the application filed by NIA to extend the judicial custody period of Lunminsei Kipgen who is an accused in the killing of 4 persons by suspected Kuki militants near the water treatment at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on January 18, 2024 from 90 to 180 days.
On January 18 afternoon amid heightened tension in Manipur, Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons opened fire on civilians near a water treatment plant at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou in Bishnupur district.
The indiscriminate firing on civilians killed four persons namely Oinam Bamonjao and his son Oinam Manitomba, Thiyam Somendro and Ningthoujam Nabadeep, all from Ningthoukhong Kha-Khunou.
A prime suspect in the killing of the four civilians at Bishnupur, Lunminsei Kipgen alias Langinmang alias Mang alias Levis, 35, son of Songin, from Mamong village, Henglep Block Churachandpur district, is presently lodged in Central Jail Lokhra, Guwahati in a different case.
The NIA Imphal re-registered and took over the case from Bishnupur police as per an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs dated February 2, 2024 .
The Court has issued notice to the accused to file an objection, if any, while fixing August 30 as the date to hear the application of NIA .
