The Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation has reiterated its stand that construction activities of the said Dam should resume only on strict adherence to the international and national norms and issues pertaining to rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected people are properly addressed.
According to a release of the Organisation, decision to stick to the previously announced conditions was adopted in the joint meeting of MDAVO advisory board and office bearers held on March 25 in compliance with the intimation of the Chief Engineer IFC Department to the MDAVO for withdrawal of ban imposed on construction work of the Thoubal multipurpose project.
The members present at the meeting also resolved that MDAVO would welcome any development project such as Mapithel Dam but is determined to reject all attempts that is likely to imperil the people under the guise of development, the release affirmed.
