Imphal, October 24 2026: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attended the inaugural ceremony of the 19th National Conference of the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of India (SELSICON 2026) and the 29th Annual Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, Manipur State Chapter (ASIMANICON 2026), held at the City Convention Centre, Imphal today.

The conferences aim to provide a platform for surgeons and medical professionals to exchange knowledge, share clinical experiences, discuss advancements in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, and strengthen collaboration towards improving surgical care and patient outcomes.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Association of Surgeons of India National president Prof Maruthu Pandian; and Dr K Sendhil Kumar, National president of SELSI took part in the conferences.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasised the importance of conferences such as SELSICON and ASIMANICON in fostering knowledge-sharing, encouraging research, promoting the adoption of new technologies and strengthening collaboration between experienced surgeons and the next generation of medical professionals.

He highlighted that medical progress must ultimately translate into better patient outcomes, greater accessibility and improved quality of life, while stressing that medical ethics and patient-centred care must remain paramount.

The Governor also expressed hope that the knowledge and expertise shared during the conferences would benefit patients across Manipur and the wider Northeastern region.

He expressed confidence that the deliberations would generate new ideas, strengthen professional networks and contribute towards better healthcare for all.

Eminent surgeons, medical professionals, academicians, researchers, faculty members, postgraduate students and delegates from various medical institutions and healthcare centres across the country took part in the conferences.
