A one-day consultation on International Criminal Court was held under the aegis of Dialogue Forum, Manipur at Nupi Lan complex here today.
The programme was attended by president of Zameya Tun Ulama, Manipur Syed Ahammad and president of Abundant Life Ministry, Manipur Dr Halngam Haokip as chief guest and functional president respectively.
Delivering lecture on the topic of International Criminal Court, secretary of Centre for Social Development U Nobokishore said ICC is an International court and it was set up on July 1, 2002.The areas where ICC has been paying attention include countries where genocide, crime against humanity and war crimes are taking place.
So far around 40 countries in thew world have been rectified in the ICC.
But USA, China and India have not yet.
As India is yet to be rectified, when instances of genocide, crime against human and war crimes take place in India, ICC can intervene only after a resolution has been passed by the UN Security Council and trial against the perpetrators of the crimes can be initiated and punishment given.
Nobokishore contended that Manipur being a place where crimes against humanity and war crimes are taking place, the attention of the ICC is needed.
In continuation of the programme, convenor of Dialogue Forum, Manipur L Niranjan and Samuel Lupho respectively presented public sharing on 'Conflict in Dafur' and 'Genocide in Cambodia', the two countries where trials have been conducted under ICC.
