Maram Khullen sports meet kicks off

Imphal, October 12, 2013: The 29th Annual Session and 27th edition of the Maram Khullen Circle Youths' & Students' Association (MKCSYA) was kick-started Friday at N Raisung Ground, Maram Bazar.

Dr N Nicky Kire, Parliamentary Secretary, Justice & Law, Land Revenue, Labour & Employment, Govt of Nagaland graced the inaugural function as the chief guest with Keku Zeliang, President Tenyimi Peoples' Organisation (TPO) and Tongpang Ozukum, President Naga Students' Federation (NSF) as the guest of honour and special guest respectively, according to a statement.

Demonstrating the peaceful co-existence of different communities in the area, cultural exchange was exhibited by Maram, Mao, Poumai, Tangkhul, Kuki, Zeliang and Nepali communities.

The chief guest advocated that sports and music have no barriers.

He stated, "Be it in times of war or peace, our emotions are bound together through sports and music.

Cultural exchange promotes integration of unity and peaceful co-existence".

The Parliamentary Secretary lauded Manipur for being at No 1 in terms of sports at the National level and envied it for producing numbers of sportspersons in the country while reminding the essence of determination, commitment and discipline to the young participants as a sportsmanship.

Reminding that sports and games have been integral part of fore-fathers, the parliamentary secretary urged the gathering to keep alive the tradition.

He quoted "You live to change and not to change is to be stagnant and die".

In his speech, TPO President regretted that Nagas have been divided into Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Myanmar.

While stating that, the Nagas look forward for a common/single administrative roof, the President reminded that TPO (a conglomerate of 10 Naga tribes organisation) is committed to work together for unity, harmony and brotherhood for Tenyimi People as well as for other Tribal Communities.

NSF President in his greeting message said that the occasion was the best time to salute the brothers in Manipur for keeping alive the histories and challenges of the Nagas.

The President stated "Yes, we are all Nagas, but we are living in different administrative umbrellas.

We can see the difficulty of our brethrens in Manipur.

But inspite of all these, we stand united".

Further, he expressed optimism that through this meet, the Nagas will grow together as they gathered while urging the participants to maintain spirit of sportsmanship.

Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Rev PK Daniel, torch-flame of the event was lighted by Ng Karaiba, 1st MKCSYA President while oath to the teams was administered by Talu Sebastine and greetings extended by Chairman, Maram Khullen Circle Board.

The valedictory function (Prize distribution) of the event is to be held on Oct 17 with PK Jha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati and P Rang Peter, MCS, CEO, Autonomous District Council as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
